Instructions:

For the cabbage strudel, heat lard and saute sliced onion together with sugar.

Season with salt and pepper.

Add cabbage, cook until soft and let cool.

Place strudel dough on a floured cloth and cover with cabbage and smoked meat.

Roll up the strudel with the help of the cloth, close it well at the ends and brush it with egg yolk or liquid butter.

Place on a greased baking tray and bake in a hot oven at a constant heat for about 45 minutes until golden brown.

Portion and serve with gravy, if desired.
