Instructions:

A great cake recipe for any occasion:

Make a yeast dough from the ingredients for the dough as usual.

For the poppy seed mixture, heat the poppy seeds with enough sugar and milk while stirring to make a spreadable amount that is sweet to your liking. (I add 2 tablespoons of semolina porridge, e.g.

“Pollacks Mändelchen” as a binding agent. You can also add raisins and / or chopped almonds).

For the crumbles, mix sugar and butter well, knead the flour by hand until you get nice thick crumbles.

Roll out the yeast dough and spread the poppy seed mixture on it. Sprinkle with the crumbles and bake at 200 °C for about 20-25 minutes until the crumbles are nice and light brown.

The crumbles will stay crispy longer if you spread the mixture on a little bit more than half of the dough and cover the rest of the dough with the crumbles.
