Instructions:

For the Black Forest gateau, preheat the oven to 180 °C. Drain the cherries in a sieve, reserving the juice. Set aside about 16 cherries for decoration, cut the rest in half and remove pits if necessary.

Beat eggs with sugar and vanilla sugar until foamy. Mix flour with cocoa, baking soda and salt and stir into egg-sugar mixture alternately with oil.

Add as much cherry juice as needed. Finally, fold in the halved cherries. Grease and crumble the cake pan and pour in the batter. Bake in the preheated oven for about 50 minutes.

Let rest briefly, remove from the pan and let cool. For the decoration, whip the cream with sugar and cream stiffener.

Just before serving, cover the completely cooled cake with the whipped cream and decorate with the chocolate sprinkles and the whole cherries.

Preparation Tip:

The Black Forest gateau also tastes very good with pickled sour cherries.
